May Wellington Drupal Meetup - beer, pizza, 8ers gonna 8

Wellington meetups - Fri, 04/21/2017 - 16:50

Wellington Drupal Meetup

This year is all about Drupal 8, and this month is no exception.

Many of us love the improvements and power that D8 brings. It's fair to say that most of us are on that band-wagon now. However many of us also have encountered instabilities that limit what we can use it for. We're going to revisit where D8 is stable and where it's not, and discuss community strategies and approaches. Part of this could involve a chat about lending some support to do a targeted sprint or documentation clean-up as a combined Wellington effort.

We'll also be sharing more case studies, modules, and all the regular good stuff.

WHEN: 2nd May, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

WHERE: Catalyst IT Level 3 (Level 6, 150 Willis St, Te Aro)

AGENDA:

Newbie spotlight - An optional opportunity for new people to the group to say a quick intro and tell us a bit about what you're doing with Drupal. Are you looking for work? Are any of the organisations at the meetups hiring? Are you short on Drupal buddies or looking for a hand with a project?

8ers Gonna 8 - 8.3.x unknown unknowns. Is the documentation correct? Is D8 composer only now? What are the consequences for UI approaches such as installing and updating modules? The agenda item is going to cover the known unknowns and explore the unknown unknowns.

We'll also discuss community code sprints for 2017 and look at some planning around our annual contribution. This will also briefly cover drupal.org.nz and what we hope to do with it this year - such as expanding our resources section and better advertising NZ / Wellington as global centres of high quality Drupal services.

PIZZA - Provided by Sparks Interactive - cheers! Vege, gluten free available (if you have special dietary requirements, Please let us know in advance by emailing directly to alex@xequals.co.nz)

Case Study - Open call for anyone who wants to do a case study on a Drupal project they have recently done / are doing.

April Wellington Drupal Meetup - beer, pizza, composer

Wellington meetups - Mon, 03/20/2017 - 15:10

Wellington Drupal Meetup

Two interesting things happening this month - we're learning Composer, and also welcoming our friend from Christchurch who is the Lead Developer of www.alliedtelesis.com who will be talking with us about running a highly ambitious, global enterprise website on Drupal.

A lot of us have heard about Composer, but what is it really? What power does it offer to Drupal, and how important is it as a site building tool/process going forwards? Many Wellington Drupal agencies are constantly looking for better, quicker, more supportable methods of rapidly deploying Drupal site recipes. It's about producing consistent, high-quality Drupal projects in an efficient, no-fluffing-around manner, and Composer can help.

How does it compare with Drush Make? What are they each best for?

Come along and learn the answer to these questions and more.

Entity browsers and configuration management

Auckland meetups - Fri, 03/03/2017 - 16:33

The Auckland Drupal Meetup Group

It's time we all got together and discuss our next round of Drupal 8 topics.

This time I would like to cover entity browsers and configuration management.

Entity browsers are awesome and they significantly and improve the user experience.

Ill cover:

1. Cover the problem and what entity browsers solved

2. How to use an entity browser to create content

3. How to use an entity browser to manage images

4. How to use views  entity browsers

Configuration management is amazing and will save your hours of work if you use it.

The issue has always been how do I and move the stuff I did on my development copy to production without having to redo it all manually. This is where the configuration management comes into play.

I'll cover:

1. What it solves

2. How it works

3. Pitt falls

These topics might seem complicated but they're really not. This talk is suitable for all skill levels of Drupal

Wellington Drupal Meetup

Are you someone who uses Drupal for small websites, but often doesn't attend the meetups? This event is especially designed for you.

Drupal marches on with another meetup full of relevant opportunities to learn more about this dynamic CMS.

This month we are focusing on smaller businesses, as many of our previous meetups have been angled towards the enterprise / Government sector, and we felt it was time to have some content specific to supporting the small business, hobbyist and newcomer to Drupal communities.

Those of you dealing with bigger sites, please still come along, as there will be all of our regular repeating agenda sections as well as conversation around Drupal 8's growth. The small business communities also rely on those of us dealing with bigger projects to help share knowledge and bring everyone up through the eco-system.

WHEN: 7th March, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

WHERE: Catalyst IT Level 3 (Level 6, 150 Willis St, Te Aro)

AGENDA:

Newbie spotlight - An optional opportunity for new people to the group to say a quick intro and tell us a bit about what you're doing with Drupal. Are you looking for work? Are any of the organisations at the meetups hiring? Are you short on Drupal buddies or looking for a hand with a project?

Drupal 8 for small business and non-profits - A combination of developer's showcases and opportunities for new people to come and learn. What is Drupal ready for, and what is still lagging behind on? We'll explore case studies of Drupal 8 sites, have a few short presentations from members of the community that have things to demo, and generally have a conversation around how D8 can be best utilised by small companies, start-ups, hobbyists, and indeed anyone looking to make a cheap and cheerful website. We'll also cover how this compares with other CMS site building technologies and explore what Drupal is a good fit for.
